Best Buy’s Blue Shirts do the best we can to narrow down and analyze what the perfect device is for you individually, but we also know that once you hit the ground running and begin using it, there isn’t always a happy ending. Luckily, we’re there for you through it all. Best Buy Mobile is happy to do a return or exchange for a different device within our 15-day return policy.
Things to consider…
While Best Buy has a 15-day return policy, we are also partners with T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Sprint, who all have their own individual cancellation policies.
What does this mean?
When you sign a two-year agreement with your contract carrier of choice, there is a 14-day period in which you can determine whether you’re happy with the service (you get reception where you use your phone most, the data speeds are sufficient, etc.). After this trial period, cancelling the contract will result in an early termination fee of $175+ per line (more if the device is a smartphone).
Best Buy will gladly exchange your device for a different one within 15 days. However, if you wish to return that device and cancel the two-year agreement, you must comply with the 14-day cancellation policy that is standard for all major cell phone providers that we offer.
The fine print
Even if you cancel a contract within the 14-day period, you are still liable for the prorated portion of time in which you had service, plus any and all activation fees set by the individual carrier (this is usually around $36 per phone).
What to bring along
If you’re making a Best Buy return or exchange, don’t forget to bring along:
- The phone
- Original receipt
- Valid form of I.D.
- Wall charger
- Other accessories that were in the box (microSD card, headphones, etc.)
- Your old device (if returning a phone without doing an exchange)
- The box (not required, but helpful)
- Manuals or any pamphlets included in the box (not required, but helpful)
To complete a return or exchange you must have the original receipt. However, don’t panic if you’ve lost track of it; we have various ways of finding it in our systems in-store. (Although it’ll make the process much faster if you have it handy!) You must also have a valid form of I.D. Don’t forget any accessories that came with the phone in the box. This usually includes memory cards, headphones, and most importantly the wall charger. (Everyone always forgets these!)
One last thing to keep in mind
Phones, more than most devices, are complicated gadgets. We want to make sure you’re happy with your new phone and that everything is working properly before you leave. Truthfully, this can take time. So if there’s one more thing I can recommend, it’s patience.
